Day 2 - Fri 13th Oct - GETTING SERIOUS NOW!

Again this is post is brought to  you in the immortal words of Ross (AKA GULL), interlaced with comments from home PA (Trina)

All work up with apprehension and as to what was on the cards for us today.

As suggested to us yesterday, we left early .8.00 and set of for the Scrutineering of the Snot Rocket.
Arrived there—WOW 1st car to be done. (Can't say TEAM AFRO isn't keen )

All paperwork in order, mechanical all passed inspection.
OK then now let’s test the Emergency lights and sirens etc.

Switched them on—oh what the?? Where all this smoke coming from— Holly Heck the control box is is smoking—sorry boys must fix the flashing lights before approval.
Moved off the rank and played electricians == removed all instrumentation and controls, identified the errant cable, after a bit of hassle and some degree of frustrated anxiety all was fixed.

Ok sir, please look at our car now—OK off you go.
On the way home some of the boys were a little concerned with the noise or humming that was again coming from under the car.

Returned to the motel and decided to go do some shopping in town. As Laurie did not have “formal” Opp Shop outfit we went to Vinnies and found sevarel outfits that were most complimentary to both Laurie’s and Rob’s needs.

Returned to motel and Darren and Rob got under the Snot Rocket and fund that the bracket that old the gearbox in place was bent—thanks again to the fork lift—darn.

After much trouble and a little bit more frustration we managed to forcefully bend the 5mm thick steel and bolted it in place.

At 3pm we returned to the scrutineering site for our Basic CPR and Mandatory New Driver Training.

All was interesting and informative.

At the site Rob went for a drive with one of the mechanics with an all is ok and should not really be a problem.

Returned to motel, fill up with fuel and the spare Jerry can.
All of us went to the Catholic Cathedral—Sacred Heart—most impressive very Victorian and wonderfully presented. It was a joy to be in such a special place.

All got ready to attend the formal evening at the town hall.
Well all the boys got dressed into Bad Taste outfits ill fitting putrid coloured shirts and coats and wouldn’t you know it the Safari suit is back in vogue-
Well let me tell you—Laurie look like a refugee from the 70's and to boot he looked like an out of date vagrant.

Rob and his fur collared coat (ladies coat that is) and Orange shirt and yellow tie—looked very appealing—if you are an orang tang that is.

Ross with his purple shirt, purple tie and purple coat look just like an out of date cow cocky (where was your trusty hat Ross) on a night on the town.…(Darren must have got it right - no comments? )

Proceed by foot to the Dinner—the stares and comments from passers by was both intimidating and reassuring that we really looked like dags—

At the dinner we sat with a group of other Queenslanders and Peta, one of the Camp Quality puppeteers.

Many people started to attach objects to hydrogen balloons and let them float to the ceiling.
Ross being a clever fellow decided to attach a dinner bun to the 3 balloons on our table.

Sorry to say but the helium balloons will not levitate a dinner bun.
After many little nibbles eventually he ended up with a piece of bread the size of a 20cent piece and then it took off with Team Afro Was Here sticker attached.
.
Of course all this nibbling and frustration caused much merriment to all at our table.

Check BOOGER MOBILE'S blogspot for pictures of this gravatational feat.- just click on the picture below.

At the end of the night we walked home seriously trying to avoid going past any hotels that may have had intoxicated patrons that may not have thought our attire appropriate we thought we looked beautiful especially Laurie.

Along the way numerous Team Afro stickers were placed on assorted surfaces, street signs, posts, traffic lights, statues, cafe umbrellas etc.

Got home and all prepared for bed early as we have a 0600hr start at the commencement of the Escapade.

DAY 1 - It's finally here---

This entry is brought to you from the guys on the road - edited by their PA at home - her comments are in red brackets.

All arrived at Darren’s and transferred to Brisbane airport no problems except the drive around to find a short term car park. (Good luck guys getting around 3,500 km in places you don't know)

At check in Mr Smarty pants BOB (AKA - Rabbit) knew how to check in via the auto ticketing thingy BUT as there were 4 persons on 2 separate printouts Ross was allocated to a seat all by himself in row 6 and the others were in Row 26. ( not such a bad thing maybe - considering four guys in a car for 10 days ???)

TEAM AFRO make a start on badging their place in esCarpade... watch out for more places TEAM AFRO has been -

Uneventful flight.

 REALLY?????????????

Melbourne—nice sunny day—decided to take a comfy ride to pick up the car (TAXI $160 or LIMO $100.00)—so limo was the best, cheaper and flashier option. (Team afro are all about style).

One Hour and Thirty minutes later arrived at the Truck Depot and the Snot Rocket was there waiting.
The very kind limo driver offered to show us how to get back to town and then out of Melbourne- great.
Snotty started like a beauty—except for a rattle in the exhaust—looked under the car swore a bit pushed the exhaust pipe into place and problem solved.

Hopped in the car and LETS GO--- Oh no what the heck is that—a very bad vibration eminated from under the car—following the Limo—we signalled to stop.

Looked under Snotty and found a catastrophic problem—the tailshaft was bent—shit how did that happen=-- must have been when they used the forklift to put the Car on the truck

The limo driver very kindly showed us to a wrecker.

Got there at snails pace all of us were very concerned as to what we would find.

The wrecker had no tail shafts—suggested another  wrecker—After about 100 phone calls and a lot of frustration we finally found a wrecker that had one—you beaut—lets go.  Oh by the way all this took about 2 hrs.

Tom Tom was set—and we proceded along the Princess motor way at about 60 ks max.
A very irate trucky was upset with our slow speed and tooted as he went past—we obliged him by all of us giving a polite wave (read between the lines).

Ok got to the wrecker—great he had one—got a discount –paid $125.
Took off the bent one—but the replacement was wrong six—S###—what now—Wrecker went and dug out another—a tad older and looking  tired—greased it up, and loh and behold all is good.  This also took about 45 minutes but who’s counting.

Ok ,set Tom Tom to work again and set of for Bendigo

After a lot of front and back seat driving and mass confusion between driver and navigator and all others.(I don't believe that -- oh Ok it was probably true)

Much merriment and banter was enjoyed by along the road to Bendigo.

Must say that one of the team was a tad concerned about the ¼ tank of fuel—we gotta get fuel ,  we gotta get fuel!

Got fuel and had a very late lunch 4.pm

Arrived at Bendigo—found the motel 4 star **** ((good job on booking this one Rabbit - )

Went for dinner at Metro, met Damien and Jo.
Ordered meal—had to wait 45 minutes for this HUMONGIOUS  Burger--- It was Huge

After dinner met and shared fellowship with other Escarpadians.

Returned to the motel and retired for the night.

FRIDAY 14th - Trina (PA at home) woken early by a bunch of excited guys looking forward to their day ahead with the whole esCarpade crew. Have a great day guys and show em what Team Afro is made of...

Till next time .....
